Kiln dried logs are typically the preferred choice for those looking to heat their home with a wood fuel. It can be very difficult to find seasoned logs that are low in moisture, due in no small part to our British climate. Kiln dried logs have a very low moisture content which makes them perfect for burning. Seasoned logs usually have a moisture content of between 25-50% which can increase further when suppliers run out of stock of "dried'' seasoned logs. By comparison kiln dried logs have a moisture content of below 15%, sometimes even as low as 7-15% making them highly suitable for burning. The calorific value of kiln dried logs is between 4500-5000 kWh/tonne, which is particularly impressive when compared to standard seasoned logs, which have a calorific value of only 2300-3500 kWh/tonne.
